Courses and Hosted Trips
If you’re interested in guided/hosted trips with me on Eden, the northern French chalk streams or the San (Poland), please contact me directly. Particularly for the latter, I can put you in touch with my with my great friend Wojtek Gibinski, of Polishquills.
The San, finally, is the premier mixed trout and grayling fishery in Europe, on a colossal scale, and it really must be fished in late September and October, at the height of the pale watery and blue winged olive hatches, in low water.
Trips to the river Eden and northern France, are about exploring the modern approach, with leader and light line techniques, with nymph and, particularly, dry fly. OK – mostly dry fly. They are therefore aimed at fly fishers who have the fundamental skills and some river experience. They are also all about absorbing the lovely nature and tranquility of these areas. Again, please contact me directly.
Fishing is on a variety of the Category One (containing salmonids) streams of this beautiful region, including the Ternoise, Lys, Aa, Canche, Planquette and Créquoise. Travel to the house is just over an hour from the Channel Tunnel. The trips can be from three days to one week in duration. The fishing on these rivers ranges from the extremely technical and demanding to that experienced on the chalk streams of southern Britain. Target species are wild brown trout and grayling.
The grayling (les ombres) are revered in northern France, more so than even wild brown trout (la truite fario sauvage), with a strict catch and release policy.
Please contact me for further information about any of the above for 2019. For trips to the San in Poland, you can also contact Wojtek Gibinski directly on Wojtek@fish.pl.
As an afterthought, if you are specifically interested in some interesting and wild trout fly fishing, the site Go Active Travel is highly recommended.
